Over the past year, Covid-19 restrictions have closed all of our favourite art galleries and cultural venues. Sadly, it’s during these tough times that art’s power to inspire, transpose, and calm is needed the most. The Victorian Quarter is one of Cork’s most beautiful neighbourhoods, and is known for its music and culture. The gorgeous, old architecture of the area gives us our name and is a true masterpiece. In addition, there are many street-art pieces, large & small, scattered throughout the area that are available for the public’s enjoyment. Art doesn’t always have to be on a canvass, and these artworks utilise paint, tile, brick, metal, and wood.
We’ve picked 10 of our favourite works, and laid out a walking map to see each one. Of course, we recommend that if it’s within your 5k limit, you visit these pieces in-person. There’s nothing like seeing art with your own eyes, and some of these murals will give you Instagram gold! Otherwise, our virtual V.Q. Art Walk is here to show you around, and maybe let you escape your office or zoom call for a few minutes. We hope that you see something that sparks your artistic side and has you planning your next trip to The Victorian QuARTer!
