Mirco Fondrini hails from Morbegno, Valtellina in Northern Italy. His passion for food and wine developed in his childhood and grew with the help of his family, culture, and the quality produce that surrounded him in the alpine region of Italy.
Mirco trained in hospitality in a school in Chiavenna, and is a qualified sommelier. Mirco moved to Ireland in 2002, and didn’t intend to stay. Nevertheless, he was charmed by the locals and remained. He managed the Farmgate Café for 13 years, where he was highly commended on service by the late critic, A.A. Gill.
An Osteria is a traditional Italian tavern that serves good wine and simple dishes. Typically, guests were greeted by a jovial and round-bellied host, that welcomed customers with good humour and “allegria”. Mirco chose this word to describe his restaurant because it fits perfectly with the ethos he believes in.
Traditional, simple Italian food, where you will always feel welcome.
