As a 123 year old icon of Cork City and The Victorian Quarter, The Metropole Hotel is known for many things. The hotel has hosted the Cork Jazz Festival for most of memory, and has snagged many awards along the way. The latest in their list of glowing attributes is the naming of their guest relations host, John Coleman, as Ireland’s “Concierge Of The Year”.

Recognized for his top-hat and tails, John is better known for his outstanding personal service to visitors from all over Ireland and around the world. His concierge title has him play many roles, such as arranging services, serving as tour guide, and looking after the general well-being of his guests. John’s attention to detail, cheerful attitude, and his need to go above & beyond expectations gained him a nomination for the prize given at the Irish Hotel Awards for 2020. Coleman won the Munster category and then went on to claim the overall title.

“The most exciting part of my job is the unknown as it is what makes it exciting. Every day is different as I meet different people from different backgrounds, from all over the globe on a daily basis.” -John Coleman (quote to Yay Cork)

John, in his signature top hat.

The Victorian Quarter is thrilled to claim John as one of our own, as he is also a fervent member of the committee. He is not only passionate about his job and his hotel, but for The VQ area and the success of those around him. Congratulations, John!
